UTAH VALLEY REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER is a 330-bed tertiary care referral center serving central and southern Utah. The center, which has open-heart and neurosurgery, offers a full array of subspecialties. Hospitalists are employed by Intermountain Healthcare system.
Hospitalists also provide some cross coverage at American Fork Hospital, which is 20 minutes away.
SERVICES: Hospitalists cover ED unassigned and patients from 60 local primary care physicians. Hospitalists provide surgical comanagement for orthopedic and neurosurgery, neurology and general surgery patients. In addition to doing preoperative evaluations, hospitalists also cover an intermediate critical care unit. (The ICU is covered by intensivists.)
SCHEDULE AND COVERAGE: Hospitalists provide 24/7 coverage and rotate nights. Full-time physicians work 14 12-hour shifts every 28 days, typically four-five shifts in a row.
COMPENSATION: Hospitalist compensation includes a competitive base salary plus productivity incentive.
HOSPITAL AND LOCAL HIGHLIGHTS: The hospital is wired with Intermountain's famous electronic medical record with access to all system records. Intermountain is nationally cited for high quality care, and hospitalists are actively engaged in quality improvement.
One hour from Salt Lake City, Provo is also near many national parks with close access to excellent ski resorts.
